What You Need to Know

Our members' care is our top priority, and we've compiled information for what you need to know about seeking care. This issue should not impact members – your cost for care will remain the same.
Some of the terms we've used below may not be familiar. We've compiled a glossary of terms to help explain what some of these elements mean.
As of April 1, 2021, Radiology Alliance providers are out of network for BlueCross members covered by Network P, Network S, BlueCare, BlueCare Plus and TennCareSelect.
In addition, Radiology Alliance has elected to leave our Medicare Advantage network effective April 19, 2021.

Members

Our goal is to keep the cost of coverage affordable for our members. At times, we have to renegotiate contracts with our health care providers if their contracted rates are higher than what similar providers in the area.

We know that, unless we help control the cost of medical services, health care costs will continue to increase, and our members will pay more out of pocket. Unfortunately, this is what has happened with Radiology Alliance.

As of April 1, 2021, Radiology Alliance is out of the following BlueCross networks:

Blue Network P^SM
Blue Network S^SM
BlueCare
BlueCare Plus
TennCareSelect

Additionally, Radiology Alliance has elected to leave our Medicare Advantage network as of April 19, 2021.

We know network changes can be frustrating for our members, so we make them only when necessary. Thankfully, however, this issue should have no impact on our members.

We’re focusing these efforts on providers who work at but aren’t employed directly by in-network hospitals. Due to the provisions outlined in the Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA), health care patients are now legally protected against balance billing or surprise bills from out-of-network providers. So even if a member gets care from an out-of-network provider practicing at an in-network facility, the member’s portion of the cost won’t change. The law protects our members from getting unexpected bills, even if these providers end up leaving our networks.

Our negotiation concerns only how much BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee pays Radiology Alliance.

We maintain an excellent network of hospitals, some of which do not use Radiology Alliance as the primary radiology and/or diagnostic group. You can easily locate an in-network hospital or doctor anytime with our “Find Care” tool at bcbst.com. You can also make sure your doctors have affiliations with in-network hospitals. For help finding a provider in your network, you can always give us a call at the Member Service number on the back of your Member ID card.

This change will not impact your costs. So even if you receive care from an out-of-network provider practicing at an in-network facility, your portion of the cost won’t change. This includes care for those who are hospitalized with scheduled procedures that would use Radiology Alliance services.
